Team Members:
Kaia Zimmerman, Team Leader
Kaia is from Amherst, MA and this fall she will be a sophomore at Sarah Lawrence College located just north of NYC. She is focusing on art (mostly painting), environmental studies, and economics, and is always looking for ways in which these interests intersect. Kaia first found her passion for environmental issues when working with Students for a Just and Stable Future her senior year of high school, and can’t wait to immerse herself in climate issues this summer! Other than participation in environmental activities, Kaia loves working with children, taking walks, reading, and exploring new neighborhoods.
April Bello, Outreach Coordinator
April rolls into New England Climate Summer geared up to serve and inspire Massachusetts communities to act collectively to build the climate movement. April is a lover of life from Los Angeles, CA and is a rising sophomore at Wellesley College. Growing up in the urban city, where social and environmental injustices were a social norm, promoted April to seek to empower herself and her community through political, social, and environmental activist work. At Wellesley College she is studying Environmental Studies and is involved with Students for a Just and Stable Future. April aspires to continue her passionate love affair with activist work in order to restore the human connection, while providing communities with a path to create a sustainable Earth.
Sara Orvis, Movement Narrative Coordinator
Sara will be a senior at SUNY Potsdam in the fall where is she is double majoring in Environmental Studies and Political Science with a minor in Pre-law. She is originally from Clayton NY on the St. Lawrence River where her love for the outdoors began. She is excited to be biking across Massachusetts and connecting communities. In her free time she likes to hang out with friends and make handbags. Sara is excited for the summer and the adventure that lies before her to help start a movement.
Lisa Purdy, New Media Coordinator
Lisa goes to Brandeis University–near Boston–and she’s from Pittsburgh, PA. She’s studying Biology, English, Spanish, French, and of course Miscellaneous–in other words, she’s Undecided. Aside from eclectic studying, she loves simplicity; happiness; color; celestial beings. Climate Summer means a venue to channel her passion and anger about our continuing fossil fuel use into something productive; it means creating a living network of environmental activist; it means strong bonds with friends brought together by a common goal. She can’t wait to zip around Massachusetts, tenacity and trailer in tow.
Marina Stevenson, Media Coordinator
Marina is a rising sophomore at Brown University, where she is planning to major in Geology-Biology and Anthropology. In her free time she enjoys swing dancing, reading, writing, martial arts, and anything involving the outdoors. Concern for the environment and social justice, in particular mountaintop removal coal mining, have long been a part of her life, and this summer she is looking forward to taking a more active role in working towards a sustainable future. She lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.
