Team Members:
Van Scholten, Team Leader
Van is a third year Environmental Studies major at Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY focusing on biology (but more interested in policy). Coming from Nashville, his passion for music is on par with biking and his desire to spread the word on climate change. Having recently attended a protest on hydrofracking in Albany, he is looking forward to getting more involved in actively working toward a greener future. When he is not biking or playing music, he likes to go swimming, camping, running, rowing and anything else with an “-ing” at the end of it!
Sandy Carter, Movement Narrative Coordinator
Born in Maryland, Sandy Carter is a rising 3rd year at the University of Chicago. When not spending time with her friends, making jewelry, or reading, she can be found engrossed in her studies or equally consumed with her passion for the environment. Interested in environmental issues since high school, she became involved in Climate Activism when a branch of Students for a Just and Stable Future was founded by a former New England Climate Summer Rider in the fall of 2010. She hopes to take back the knowledge she will learn this summer about building the environmental movement in New Hampshire when she returns to Chicago and assumes her new role as Director of UChicago Climate Action Network.
Bryna Cofrin-Shaw, Media Coordinator
Bryna is a native of Northampton, MA. She is now a sophomore at Brown University. Though she has yet to choose a major, she hopes to concentrate in Environmental Studies and Literary Arts, and is especially interested in the intersection of literature and the environmental movement. She is excited to be traveling through New Hampshire this summer and contributing to the movements already in action all across New England. This is her first experience as a climate activist (!) and she can’t wait to get biking.
Jordan Swenson, New Media Coordinator
Jordan Swenson is a cool cat from New Jersey. She is a rising junior at Gettysburg College in PA where she is studying Environmental Studies (so cliché!). When Jordan is not working her buns of steel on the velocipede she enjoys Ultimate Frisbee, larping, and eating her favorite ice cream (dulce de leche). If Jordan were a critter she would be an otter, as she is playful and enjoys embarking on random adventures for pure enjoyment. This summer Jordan is ready to ride for our climate!
Ben Trolio, Outreach and Events Coordinator
Ben is going to be a third year student at the University of New Hampshire majoring in Environmental Conservation Studies. Outside of cycling, he enjoys sporty activities and participating in the environmental activist club at his school. He only has one sister and spent his childhood pursuing fun in upstate New York. This summer he looks forward to making connections and building a movement in the state of New Hampshire.
